The Biography of a Prairie Girl Eleanor Gates 9781514303108 Books
Life just doesn't seem to get any easier, there are always problems of some kind or another. Lack of job opportunities, housing issues, money/economics, love life, family issues, etc. All of these play a role how our lives get determined. Where we come from to where we are going.Life in the late 1800's are no exception. Life was tough. Had to farm and hunt for your food, basic housing in undeveloped lands was difficult, and your only hope of love was either a large family that was a nearby neighbor or if someone you knew knew someone else who wanted a spouse.
This story was interesting in telling the tale of a young lady (from birth to going off into the world) as she grew and matured. There were good times and bad, scraps and gatherings. A good window into history that we don't pay attention to anymore, that was life as people knew it. This time was a stepping block for us today.
I would recommend this book to someone who would like a bit of normal, everyday living during this time period or to those with a bend towards historical information.

The Biography of a Prairie Girl Eleanor Gates 9781514303108 Books Reviews
I always enjoy first hand accounts of our country's history. When anyone can catch a glimpse of the difficulties and joys of an "average" individual, in this case a little girl, their own lives are enriched. While the literary style is antiquated and not of the best quality, the writer captures the authentic dialogue and "feel" of her time. I happily give a 5 star rating because of it's genre, it is one of the best.
This is a well-written bio, similar to Little House on the Prairie. Enough happens to sustain the reader's interest. Would be a good choice to read to a 3rd grade class.
I like biographies and this is really different. Written from a third person viewpoint it is very detailed, sometimes going on a little too much for me, but painting the situation with lots of color. It chronicles the life of a little girl from her birth until she is 15. It takes you back to a simpler, harder life with all of its joys and sorrows. Highly recommend.
Eleanor Gates writes a vivid account of life on the prairie through the eyes of a little girl into maidenhood and the steps she ultimately took towards her true destiny. Me Gates also has a wonderful command of the English language using beautifully descriptive accounts of the simplest of details. Well worth the time to read. A wonderful reminder of times gone by in our history as a nation that the young of today know little of. I loved the way she never actually used her name or the names of her characters throughout the entire story. You must read the book to see how clever this is.
The 3 star review is due to the version of the book not the book/content itself. I would give 1 star to the version but don't want to hurt the reading of the book itself.
I have to return the book because the print is extremely small, almost make the book unreadable. Buy another version!
This biography, written in the third person, tells the story of a young pioneer girl living in the Dakotas near the Sioux reservation. It is cleverly written by a professional writer who knew her time period. Adventures with snowstorms, fires, a stampede, a tornado and other dangers make this a very interesting read. It was easy relating to this young character who had funny situations regarding her wild pets. The descriptions of a wedding celebration, a Christmas holiday, and a wildfire that sweeps across the plains seem so real. I plan to check out Eleanor Gates' other books as well.
The birth of a prairie girl begins when the stork reaches a lonely family in Dakota and leaves a new baby girl. On the same day her father left, leaving the mother with three boys and a new baby girl. The story is entertaining, interesting and has a good history of our Country in the 1800's.
The family starts out with almost nothing but love and keeping the family together through hard work, they are blessed and make a good life for themselves. With Ms Gates you will experience happiness, hardships, family love, joy and disappointment that the whole family feels. Ms Gates has written an unusual story using no personal names for her characters throughout the entire book, but because of her skills as a writer she is able to make all her charaters come to life. You will experience family life in the 1800's from the birth of the new born until the little girl is a young lady.
This story is well written, I enjoyed it, the book was copyrighted in 1902. I highly recommend it if you like American History in the 1800's but it is not written like a history book. This is a free domain book on .
